Yalikavak lies at the north-west corner of the Bodrum Peninsula, 17 km or 10 miles from Bodrum. The permanent inhabitants of Yalikavak number around 6,800 people. This fertile coastal region is ideal for sailing and all water sports and attracts many foreign yachts to the harbour that once sheltered mainly fishing boats. Yalikavak is renowned for superb sunsets and its unspoilt shoreline and sparkling clean sea, and is a protected area. In 2002 Yalikavak Bay was awarded the "Blue Flag" for its clean waters.

Yalikavak was originally a fishing harbour and sponge divers village, but thanks to its extraordinary beaches, abundant nature, authentic villages and massive investment in the creation of a high class marina it’s quickly becoming a popular tourist destination, and has been dubbed the St Tropez of the Bodrum Peninsula.

Yalikavak is becoming ever more popular as an alternative resort to Bodrum. Yalikavak still supports a thriving fishing industry, and the restaurants around the picturesque harbour display a wide selection of fresh fish every day. There are many shops in the traffic-free centre, and every week the town hosts one of the biggest fruit, vegetable and clothing markets in the area.

Yalikavak is ideal for people who want the facilities of bigger resorts, but not the non-stop nightlife. The area itself has a significant expat population and the Bodrum Milas International airport lies just 40 minutes drive away.

Yalikavak has an air of peace and tranquility, and exudes natural beauty. Even though interest in the area is picking up, the beaches at both Yalikavak and Gundogan are sandy and not crowded. Yalikavak is one of the greenest locations of the peninsula and nature has been generous in terms of granting it an amazing sea and coastline. The coast around Yalikavak bay is 29km in length.

As well as Mediterranean seals, windmills are one of the symbols of Yalikavak, and you will find many of them dotted around the area, adding an olde-world charm to the location.

Preserving the architectural characteristics of Yalikavak and the adoption of a strict systematic development of the district adds extra beauty to the region. Yalikavak does not suffer poor construction thanks to the planning regulations. You will come across many well preserved stone houses in Yalikavak that sit in harmony with the newly constructed developments.

It is enough to take a short tour around Yalikavak to see that it is the best all-round location on the Bodrum peninsula.
